Welcoming 2013

It's the last day of 2012 and the world has not ended. Although some people spent the year worrying about the end of the world scenarios, 2012 has been an incredible year for us and I didn't want to say goodbye to it without acknowledging its wonders. We are building a dive resort in Raja Ampat !!! Do I need to say more? It has been our biggest dream and everything unfolded in 2012 miraculously. We met wonderful people along the way, some of which became our comrades in this adventure. The flow of support, encouragement, positive energy keeps us going. We still have a long way ahead and we're...

Magic Mushroom Island / Lombok , Gili Trawangan

Magic Mushroom Island / Lombok , Gili Trawangan

No, I'm not talking about the mushroom islands of Palau and the magical underwater. It's the sort of mushroom that is said to guarantee a ticket to heaven, or moon, or jail if you get caught with it. It's a tiny ex-hippy island in Bali Sea that I'm talking about, Gili Trawangan. Gili Islands, Air, Meno and Trawangan are located between Lombok and Bali. Trawangan is the most popular of them all. Its permanent population is around 800, most of the workforce comes from Lombok and other islands. Gili Trawangan used to be a back packer haven back in the 80ies with it's cheap accomodation, beautiful...

Palau

Palau

Palau has been on our minds since we’ve been there earlier this year. All the memories got fresh and alive again when Tunc started working on the video.Palau is an island country in the middle of the ocean. It is literally in the middle of the sea, with closest mainland  500 miles away. We flew there from Manila in the middle of the night and it felt like it took us forever to fly over the plain darkness of the ocean. It’s a country with 20.000 people and their flag is a yellow sun over bright blue background. Their flag represents Palau perfectly, it’s all about sun and sea. Brightness...

Alien

Alien

Alien Underwater in Lembeh is magical. Its murky waters are home to around 2000 species, many of which are too small for the untrained eye to spot during a dive. It’s normal to find something on or under everything in Lembeh. It’s one of those rare places where you are likely to see a shrimp on a nudybranch, an orangutan crab out in the open sand, flamboyant cuttlefish hatching from eggs miraculously.  It was December, 2009 when I first went to Lembeh.  I’ve always been drawn to the tiny, colorful creatures of the seas and Lembeh was generously displaying these hidden treasures if you could...

Resort and Destination Reviews from a Mother : Malaysia and Indonesia

Resort and Destination Reviews from a Mother : Malaysia and Indonesia

No need to mention that this is all about diving, right? If you’re not planning a dive trip with children, information below will probably be useless for you. But you’re welcome to read if you want to :) MALAYSIA Kapalai Resort – Malaysia This resort is great for a romantic getaway, however I wouldn’t recommend to go with young children. It is completely built on a coral reef, so there is no beach. Children have to run around and play and this resort is not suitable for this kind of activity. I think it’s very likely that young children can fall into the sea, especially around...

Dive Trips With Children

Dive Trips With Children

The older and more independent children become, the easier it gets to go on a dive trip with them. Even long flights can be fun as being on a plane itself is a great adventure for most kids. My children love travelling and they love staying at hotels. When they are old enough to snorkel with you, it gets so much fun that you’ll be tempted to skip dives just to snorkel with them. I’m always well prepared for long flights and hotel time when mummy and daddy are diving. I take plenty of coloring pages, crayons, modeling dough, their favorite books and films and plenty of sand toys. My children...
